Ride The Serengeti - South to North

4 DAYS

WHY THIS ADVENTURE?

For many riders being on a bike in this area is enough! For anyone looking for an adventure and a way to spend more time exploring Tanzania, being on a bike is a superb option, none less in these areas as this a such a superb link between the north and south Serengeti. Why drive or fly when you can bike and have more fun doing so? LINKS: Serengeti SOUTH (so Olduvai / Ndutu / Ngorongoro) to NORTH (Klein’s / Lobo / Kogatende / Lamai).

HOW TO BOOK

All our adventures can be booked through a tour operator near you. Just ask them about Lake Natron Camp, Ngare Sero and our range of activities and adventures and specify the “The Footsteps on Man” trek. You can add this adventure into your dates – all trips are customised to your dates.

HIGHLIGHTS

Mountain biking in areas you never thought possible! Serendipitous meetings with Maasai in very remote areas far away from the normal tourist circuit. Different riding conditions and options to extend the rides. Cave paintings and fossils and who knows, maybe the migration will turn up too!

DESCRIPTION

This is a 3 night, 4 day programs designed to slot into any number of safaris but also can be combined with our other trekking programs (such as Footsteps of Mankind at the end and goes to Natron). A point to point mountain biking program that moves on a daily basis to cover the full length of the eastern side of the greater Serengeti eco system and links north to south, enabling much more creative, active adventures.

ITINERARY IN FULL

DAY 1 – Piyaya

We normally meet at Olduvai gorge Museum (extra charge, but definitely worth it) and then transfer away from the normal tourist routes towards the Gol Mountains. Once past the Nasera rock gate we meet our bikes and cycle towards Piyaya village, with stops to truffle around river beds for fossils. In the late afternoon we arrive in camp for a shower and familiarise ourselves with the set up before heading to sundowners with paintings and a view!  Dinner & overnight Piyaya camp (snacks, dinner).

DAY 2 – LOSOITOK

Today the ride is approx 75km but can be "cherry picked" for those that want to! Heading out from this camp there are a series of trails ranging from larger trails to single track and so the vehicle keeps fairly close to allow for support. The latter part of the ride is on well established gravel roads before heading on single track to camp nestled up in massive rock outcrops or kopjes. Dinner & overnight Losoitok Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

DAY 3 - POLOLETI

Dawns can be absolute magic from our vantage point here and we are literally on the transition from absolute wilderness to mixed wilderness and human / livestock habitat (arguably “true” wilderness) and some 20km in the distance towns grow by the day. Our riding takes us on great single track and dirt roads to a camp on the Poleleti river. This community mixed herding livestock and farming and tourism - we are welcomed guests and our hosts are the locals. Dinner and overnight Pololeti Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

DAY 4 – DEPART

The riding today is somewhat contingent on onward plans, but is normally to Klein’s gate where you can connect with onwards safaris to the northern part of Serengeti (Klein’s, Lobo, Kogatende, Lamai). We expect to be at Klein’s gate by 1pm.
